Mr. Bové was born in Villanova, Pennsylvania. He was a National Merit Scholar in high school and an accomplished pianist. He is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and is a member of the Bar of the United States District Court for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third and Seventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. Lou Bové is an AV (Preeminent) rated attorney.
Mr. Bové concentrates his practice in the fields of insurance coverage and bad faith litigation. He also provides consulting services to the insurance industry in catastrophic loss litigation, and supervises the handling of construction defect litigation and products liability litigation. Representative clients include primary, excess and specialty lines insurance carriers, developers, construction managers, and contractors engaged in multi-unit developments and large construction projects, pharmaceutical companies, and industrial and consumer product manufacturers.
Mr. Bové advises insurance carriers concerning their rights and obligations under differing insuring grants relative to claims involving large or nationwide exposures, drawing on his practical experience in handling the defense of mass tort and other complex litigation. He litigates coverage actions on behalf of insurance carriers nationwide, with an emphasis on matters in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, West Virginia, and the Gulf states. He has been directly involved in some of the largest exposure bad faith and reverse bad faith cases in the industry. He regularly serves as an expert consultant in insurance coverage matters on behalf of industry clients in declaratory judgment/bad faith actions, and has offered expert testimony in that capacity. Mr. Bové has litigated or otherwise served as a coverage consultant in numerous Director’s and Officer’s coverage cases, catastrophic loss cases, construction defect cases, and first party commercial property and business interruption cases, including those addressing COVID-19 claims.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Bové served as Court-appointed Liaison Counsel in complex product liability and mass tort coordinated proceedings including In re Pennsylvania Orthopedic Bone Screw Product Liability Litigation and In re Pier 34 Coordinated Litigation, and served as Multi-District Litigation counsel in nationwide federal proceedings including In re Diet Drug (fen-phen) Litigation MDL 1203 and In re Orthopedic Bone Screw Product Liability Litigation, MDL 1014. He represented manufacturers of products containing phenylpropanolamine (PPA), pro-hormones, ephedra, and other pharmaceuticals in individual and class actions in the State and Federal Courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well as in Multi-District Litigation. He continues to supervise the handling of the defense of a variety of industrial and consumer product manufacturers, as well as environmental and toxic tort cases in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
For nearly a dozen years, Mr. Bové served as a Special Presenter for the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada where he lectured annually to state court jurists throughout the country on managing complex civil litigation.
