Richard J. Zito handles litigation matters in state and federal courts as a partner in the firm’s retail, restaurant, and hospitality practice group. Mindful of the unique demands of these industries, Rich is committed to delivering strategic solutions that advance his clients’ business and risk-management goals.
Specifically, Rich defends businesses in a range of matters arising out of premises liability, negligence, strict products liability, and the Illinois Dramshop Act, as well as alleged violations of various state and federal consumer protection statutes. His litigation experience spans all phases of dispute resolution, from pre-suit negotiations through trial and appeal. During his eighteen-year career, Rich has also successfully litigated claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and advised banks and other major corporations on a plethora of employee benefits and executive compensation issues during the 2008 global financial crisis.
A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Rich distinguished himself as a semifinalist in the Henry M. Campbell Moot Court competition and during a semester-long intensive trial advocacy practicum.
Rich is admitted to practice in Illinois state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
